Who Are They?
Just one of the biggest names in the travel industry. First Choice are part of the ever growing TUI Travel PLC group, now making up one of 250 brands in the TUI group. Other well known TUI brands include Thomson Holidays and Crystal, both of which are highlighted on this site.
First Choice are protected financially with ABTA and ATOL protection, always an important area to check before booking with someone.
All Inclusive Holidays
Unlike most of the big travel companies in the UK which have tried to kept their holiday type and audience broad, First Choice always tried to highlight themselves as the premium choice for holidays, being ‘the home of all inclusive’. They traditionally cater to people over 30 who are looking for something quite nice and their success at offering this has built them a seemingly unbreakable reputation. They aren’t limited to all inclusive however, as they do offer other choices and you can just book a flight through First Choice. You can also sign up to insurance when booking a holiday, as well as aranging airport parking, hiring a car, hotels close to the airport and airport transfers.
Don’t forget to discuss excursions when booking your holiday as they might be able to set this up before you fly out. Often if you book in advance the excursions are a bit overpriced to be honest, however if you are worried about booking abroad or scared something might be sold out, then this can be a safer option for many.
When choosing which hotels make it onto the First Choice options, they have always focused around children friendly locations, rather than loud and young locations. For this reason, First Choice have a brilliant reputation when it comes to family breaks, generally in 4 to 5 star hotels. Booking an all inclusive hotel with children can add a bit of excitement for the kids, while it also removes the constant battle of trying to find the restaurant to please all.
Outside Of Europe
To be honest, First Choice do put most of their efforts into European based destinations, or locations close by such as Sharm El Sheikh, however they do offer long haul holidays. You could even look into an adult only getaway, which is very popular with destinations in Cuba, as a more romantic break and a way to escape kids by the pool. If you are thinking of getting a romantic getaway, a trip to the Caribbean or the Maldives might be a brilliant option to consider.
According to ReviewCentre, they have a rating of 1.9 out of 5, based on 235 reviews, which is definitely not a great score, however reading through all of their competitors they all seem to hold similar scores. I have flown once personally with First Choice, which brought me no real complaints. The sales team didn’t seem heavily trained on the destination which I found frustrating as I felt training on locations should be more focused on as these questions almost led me to changing tour operator. Saying that, they handled everything perfectly, the hotel was brilliant and offered us free cocktails on arrival, the rep was very friendly (albeit he was charging more than what I would say is fair but his bouncy personality made up for it) and I came home happy and refreshed, with a smile on my face.
