Planning my trip to Peru, I did as much research as possible, finding out about the Inca trail to Machu Picchu, sandboarding in huacachina and white water rafting on the apurimac river, however there was nothing written about the oddly clothed dogs.

Following a talk with my mate Lee, I decided to write this article to bestow upon the universe the suave clothing of the local dogs.

There was a religious festival going on, therefore this might have been the reason why everyone was dressing up their dogs, however I was struggling to find the religious connection to a dog dressed as a ballerina. Either way, it certainly made my day!

The pictures I’ve taken is just a small number of the well dressed dogs I found, however it certainly managed to amuse me and I did my best to take as many pictures as possible. One I unfortunately missed out on was two dogs dressed in wedding gear, outside a church while people threw confetti in the air, brilliant!

You can rest assured that as my trip goes on, I will attempt to upload more images of dogs in costumes up onto this page.

Here is my latest update: I have spotted a homeless dog wearing a jumper, what a mini legend!

I also managed to find a dog wearing a hat and glasses…as you do. I did start to feel sorry for the dogs after this one, but I couldn’t help but be amused!

Ha! We had no idea that dressing up dogs was such a popular Peruvian hobby! I wonder if their cats are also as fashionable? 🙂 Thanks for sharing, and happy travels!
