The tourism of Ahangama is predominantly focused around surfing, being a huge attraction to the area for many. However there are plenty more things you can do while here, including a visit to the Handunugoda tea estate and learn the way they grow the tea. I’d also recommend purchasing some fresh from the plantation, you will never have fresher tea. I spent my time staying in the Mosvold Villa, which was perfect if you’re looking for a luxury break. Ahangama isn’t a long journey from Colombo, therefore it is definitely worth the visit if you’re travelling around Sri Lanka. Considering the size of the waves, I had so much fun jumping waves with Raquel. You can visit either Koggala beach or Midigama beach. Something we truly loved about the area is we managed to get a photo of the famous stilt fishermen. In other areas of the country, if you try to take a photo then you will often be asked for money, however they were happy to fish away in this area and we setup a GoPro to film them for an hour, while they were there the whole day. It also highlights the fact that if you were to order seafood and request the catch of the day, you can have it straight from sea to the dinner plate.
