Who Are They

The much less well known, Jewel In The Crown Holidays is very a specialised package holiday operator. They started out back in 1983 just selling holidays to two locations, Goa in India and Turkey. They have since expanded, however this is very much their bread and butter, which is why you might not have heard of them unless you know someone who has booked a holiday to one of those destinations. They have since started selling holidays to some locations in Egypt, mainly to Sharm El Sheikh, however if you want to speak to their sales team in order to have all your questions answered then they are heavily trained in Goa and Turkey.

Considering the fact that they aren’t spread as thin as a number of competitors, they focus all their content and efforts on these two main locations, meaning the guides they produce on their website are really in-depth and will help you to understand more about these locations. It is worth reading through these before heading off to your chosen destination as they cover everything from tipping etiquette to general health tips.

While Goa is now recognised as a big tourist attraction to people in the UK, this wasn’t always the case, as Jewel In The Crown Holidays were one of the main instigators, as they were involved in the first ever launch of a chartered flight from a UK airport all the way back in 1987 (when I was born). They now sell in excess of 15,000 holidays to Goa each year, so not exactly a small amount. The cost of a holiday to Goa isn’t too cheap either, therefore that is a fair amount of revenue coming their way. It is also worth quickly reading up the difference between North Goa and South Goa before you book a trip, as they offer a very different type of holiday, despite being so close. Obviously you can travel between the two once you are out there, however you want to be closer to your destination of choice. As well as the warm weather, beautiful beaches and mountains, you can also spot some wildlife as water buffaloes stroll along casually, while some of the bird life is absolutely unrecognisable to me. Holidays to Goa are growing in popularity, so it is worth booking a trip here before it becomes a full frontal tourist trap.

Holidays to Turkey are increasing year on year, while if they ever manage to join the EU you might find holidays increasing. On the other hand, with them not being part of the EU, holidays have continued to be relatively cheap to this destination. Despite being a mainstream destination, holidays in Turkey are still quite cheap, while hotels, food and activities are really reasonable in price. One slight issue which many have faced when heading here is how some men will react around single women walking around on their own, so just remember that before booking and when considering who you are flying out with. Fine if you are as a couple, not so great as a group of girls or as a lone female traveller.

The website used to only show five star hotels, however they have expanded their search to include lower priced locations to fit all budgets, so now you have everything from the dark and dingy to the star studded VIP locations. It is worth reading hotel reviews before you book it, to check for simple rules such as whether it is ‘family friendly’ or what the location is like in regards to bars, the beach or activities and excursions.

Checking the business on ReviewCentre, they get 2 out of 5 from 21 reviews, however despite that being a low score, this is around equal to most other travel companies on Review Centre, except for ones that have obviously cheated to give themselves a manipulated high score. The issue with online review sites for this company is they are all very much outdated, with most ratings being from 2008, while I haven’t personally booked a trip through them.

Due to the limited information on this company, I think it will strongly fall down to how trustworthy the hotel looks, however Jewel In The Crown Holidays is ABTA protected and is a completely safe website, albeit a bit outdated.

There last minute holidays also seem pretty cheap and worth considering if you could literally jump on a plane on the day you’re searching.

Feeling Social

I recently decided to extend my brand pages to detail how each company is performing on social. I honestly feel this is a fair reflection on how often companies keep up to date, so this for me is an important aspect.

The Jewel In The Crown Twitter profile has 138 followers, with their last post 2 months ago, at time of writing. They have a further 220 Facebook likes, but really I feel they should have a much stronger profile, considering they’ve been around for so long. The extent of their social landscape seems to only stretch as far as Twitter and Facebook, however I will continue to monitor their presence on other channels.
