National Curry Week will commence from the 7th October and will finish on the 13th October 2013, where curry places up and down the country will be showcasing their best dishes. Chicken Tikka Masala is recognised as the most popular meal in Britain, a truly phenomenal result which really highlights how diversified and cultural our diets and lifestyles have become. National Curry Week, first started in 1998, was set up in order to raise funds for charities concentrating on hunger and poverty around the world, while it also celebrates Britain’s strong passion for an Indian Curry. In fact, Britain loves curry so much that it is said we consume 3.5 million curries a week!

Many curry houses all over Britain will hold special events, and you should be able to purchase a curry from almost everywhere, as they go on sale in pubs, cafes, restaurants and canteens up and down the country.

If you decide to order a curry takeaway during this period, try to make sure that they are donating a percentage of the sale to a good cause, as many will be.

The event will be taking place from the 7-13 October, perfect timing as my Birthday falls on the 9th October, any excuse to dig into a Madras.

If you like a challenge however, why not get into the kitchen and try making a curry from scratch! For a starting point, it is worth purchasing some cumin, ginger, garlic, turmeric, coriander, cloves and some chilies if you can handle them. You can find more than 500 curry recipes online, meaning you have no excuse for not making one yourself.

Remember not to place too much water into your curry simply to add texture. You would be better off by adding tomato paste, tomato puree, coconut milk, yogurt, milk or cream. These would also offer a stronger and greater taste compared to water.

If you like a hot curry, you might enjoy Phal, Vindaloo or a hot Madras. If you actually prefer a milder option you might want to try a korma, Pasanda, Tikka Masala or a Malaya.

If anyone wants to make me a curry, I would certainly not complain! Let me know your favourite curry below!
