The smile on my face when the Premier League returned was ridiculously animated, as I kept my eyes peeled to the SkySports app and blasted the sounds of commentary from the radio, much to Raquel’s dismay.
However, I’ve only just found out Wimbledon has also been cancelled for 2020 and I feel absolutely devastated. We have had plans cancelled for Santorini and numerous UK staycations, however we were also planning to visit Wimbledon during the tournament to get into the mood. But now is the time to look forward, with Wimbledon 2021 in mind.
We enjoyed a stay at the gorgeous Hotel Du Vin Wimbledon last year, which will long stay in our memories. Despite growing up a short distance away in Acton, I have never really visited Wimbledon too much, despite my love for the sport (maybe it was the reluctance to watch Tim Henman fall short each year).
There are apparently a number of classic Wimbledon games to be played on our TV’s over the next month, but my mind is on where to go next year!
It might be a long way in advance, but Novak Djokovic is the clear bookies favourite, followed by Nadal and Tsitsipas for the men’s games. Sadly, Andy Murray is way back, behind the likes of Raonic and Thiem, being seen as the 10th most likely to win the tournament. The lad who first won it back in 2013 has been the UK’s best player for a considerable period of time, but the 33 year old is starting to enter the twilight years of his career. Having said that, Federer is 38 and is still scarily good, getting to last year’s Wimbledon final before finally losing to Djokovic.
With the travel industry taking such a huge knock from the Coronavirus pandemic, travel companies are finally starting to see some green shoots of recovery, with traffic picking up considerably in June. Most notably, the sales are starting to come in, but with most being for holidays in 2021.
So if you’re looking to join next year on Henman Hill (wait, we can’t really call it that anymore, Aorangi Terrace I guess, or Murray Mound), make sure to let us know. It does cost around £25 to enter the grounds, but what better way to spend your day than eating strawberries and cream while watching an intense match with an excited audience. In case you’re curious, the strawberries and cream cost £2.50 and are picked that morning from a farm in York, while they only provide the most fresh and gorgeous looking strawberries, so you can be guaranteed a great taste with every bite (I feel like I’m plugging them now).
