Sure, I do love a classic, like an espresso martini or a spicy margarita, but when mixologists can be truly creative and flamboyant, that’s when I’m really impressed and we’ve been fortunate enough to see some incredible cocktails made over the years. Below we wanted to list all of the most spectacular drinks we think you should try if you ever get the chance.
Diver David at Vudu – Worthing
An entire divers helmet is brought over to your table, with dry ice creating that foggy effect as the helmet opens and you take out your drink. But it doesn’t stop there, you’ll see an actual diver on top of your drink.
This is all great, but it would be nothing if the cocktail wasn’t tasty, which I’m glad to say it was! The Diver David had Jameson whiskey, amaretto, lemon, sugar, Angostura bitters and foamer, creating that nice sour taste.
Beside The Seaside at Bohemia – Brighton
Made to resemble a nice ice cream on Brighton beach, this gorgeous cocktail includes limoncello, bumbu rum cream, lime juice and mousse burnt into a meringue and served in a cone shaped glass.
Bohemia are incredible at making cocktails and there were a few contenders for this list, including the smoked coffee old fashioned, which has been around for a long time and is still a big favourite with regulars, but I was most wow’d by this one, so it had to make the list.
Peach Don’t Kill My Vibe at Blossoms – Brighton
This vodka based cocktail was so devilishly tasty and was also part of their cocktail club where you get 2 for £14 Mon-Thurs, perfect when you find a good one in a deal!
The drink consisted of vodka, white chocolate liqueur (have I won you over already?), peach soda, lemon and aquafaba. Blossoms is a beautiful bar in the Lanes and has a number of other tasty drinks on their menu, but this had to be the winner for me. A close second was the medicina latina or the Scarlet B.
Coconut Chilli Margarita at Indian Summer – Brighton
Nothing beats a thali, Indian food is my favourite and this is such an incredible restaurant that you have to visit, but it’s not just the spectacular food that you should try, as they also have some amazing cocktails. I also loved the melon drop, which was stunning, but my shout has to go for the coconut chilli margarita.
We’ve always loved a spicy margs, but this was a really interesting and unique twist on it, keeping that nice kick but adding a coconutty aftertaste.
Midori Storm at The Blonde Hedgehog – Alderney
I had never heard of Midori before visiting Alderney, but I was delighted to be introduced to this melon flavoured liqueur from Japan. The Midori Storm consisted of Midori, Malibu, pineapple and kiwi, making a sweet cocktail that I kept ordering each day and have looked around for something similar since returning to the mainland.
