I remember getting a book on ‘1,000 places to see before you die’ and Greece had by far more entries than any other country in Europe. It is unsurprising when you consider there is Parthenon, Acropolis museum, Meteora, Acropolis of Athens, Santorini, Spinalonga, Mount Lycabettus, the Ionian Islands, Odeon of Herodes Atticus and Myrtos beach just to name a few! Of course, if partying is more your thing then a trip to Zante might be more up your street. However, there are plenty more things to do in Zante. Another location I recommend giving a visit to is Kalamata, which allows you to slightly beat the tourist traps (albeit not completely). While there are certain stereotypes around Greece back here in the UK, many are surprised to find out it is one of the most mountainous countries in Europe. This offers an alternative idea for daytime activities, including hiking and keeping your eyes out for interesting wildlife. However, the fact that it is easily one of the sunniest countries in the world should be good enough reason for you to consider it as a holiday destination. Greek food is also a nice surprise for many, with some gorgeous dishes. Think moussaka, tzatziki, gyros, souvlaki or kleftiko. There are more islands than you could ever fully cover on a blog, with more than 2,000 off Greece! Having said that, only 170 are actually inhabited.
