San Francisco

I’ve always had the attitude that I wouldn’t want to return to a holiday destination twice, but San Francisco completely broke this for me. I loved every single moment I was there, being a hippy town like Brighton. If you get the chance, you have to bike across the Golden Gate Bridge! Once you get to the other side, you fly down the hill at crazy speeds, before reaching a cafe where you can stop for coffee and cake and a lookout at the view of the bridge. San Fran is a globally known city, however it used to be called Yerba Buena, meaning ‘good herb’, not quite as cool a ring to it, but the ‘herb’ part definitely seems to match up with one side of San Fran! One of the items on my list of things to do before you die in San Francisco is to visit China Town, as it is the 2nd largest outside of Asia. There are plenty of great places to stop and eat, or to pick up a souvenir for someone back home. The hills of San Fran have encapsulated many movie scenes, with the windy roads going down. In fact, the city is built on more than 50 hills, so this gives you an idea of the grounds here, as you may be a little sweaty when walking up a hill. One thing I was surprised about was it was quite windy and cold. After speaking to a local, they explained that this weather was normal, but it’s not until I looked at a map and saw how North it was. Just don’t get into the sea, it was completely freezing! Oh, obviously, make sure you make a trip to Alcatraz as well, but this needs to be booked way in advance if you want to definitely get yourself a ticket. Plus if you’re heading further down south, then have a read of my LA blog posts, or my trip to Yosemite.
